PRINCIPLES OVER TECHNIQUES. Performance over outcome.
WE FOCUS ON PRINCIPLES rather than TECHNIQUES. specific techniques are important, but not as important as the overlying principles behind them.
There are several important reasons why our team of instructors and core training methodology emphasizes principles over techniques.
First, without serious repetitions and continued practice, effective techniques can be difficult to remember and implement, especially in a real world self-defense encounter. Conversely, principles are basic, intuitive and easy to remember. It's less about remembering specific steps, and more about critical thinking ability.
Second, martial arts techniques are often attached to a specific system or lineage. Just because a certain technique came from a certain system, doesn't make it the most efficient or effective method of surviving an attack. Principles are detached from any specific system or lineage, rather employing critical thinking and astute awareness to determine effective responses.

TRAINING PRINCIPLES - DEFANGING THE SNAKE
In the DEFENSIVE TACTICS portion of our knife and impact weapon curriculum, you will learn dynamic footwork and movement drills that will improve your ability to prevent, avoid and manage violent weapon attacks. Mobility quals survivability, is a key principle we look to exploit in any defensive altercation. If you aren’t able to prevent or avoid the attack, your balance, footwork and movement will determine whether you end up in bad spot, or a safe place.
Our instructors focus on teaching and providing you the tools and tactics to end up in the safe places. Inevitably knife disarms will be covered, but they are not a large focus of our training curriculum. From our own force-on-force experiences, our team has found that knife disarms are quite difficult to achieve on an unwilling partner who hasn’t been off-balanced or stunned.
From a defensive viewpoint, rather than teaching low percentage disarms, we prefer to show how dynamic movement and countervailing force can be utilized to possibly end the assault immediately or leveraged to enhance the disarming process.
In the OFFENSIVE TACTICS portion of our knife and impact weapon curriculum, you will learn how to efficiently carry, deploy and use your personal EDC knife or impact weapon in a critical self-defense situation.
Offensively, it is important to understand how to manipulate and use your own knife or impact weapon, without hurting yourself or unintended targets. Secondly, it is quite difficult to understand how to properly defend a weapon attack without a thorough understanding of how to properly attack with that weapon. Therefore, the more knowledge you have of offensive side of weapon tactics, the more knowledge you will have of defensive side of weapon tactics.
There are critical questions and concepts we cover with during the course that many folks who carry knives or impact weapons regularly, have not thought about. How many seconds does it take you to deploy your EDC knife or tactical flashlight and make ready? When you deploy your EDC blade or kubotan, what orientation and grip will you have? Which grip is preferred, and why? Our instructors will cover these key areas during our training sessions and provide reality based self-defense solutions to enhance your defensive capabilities.
